I went ahead with the monk rune, and here's what I'm going to try do as a Guardian - stay up, and support with heals, and applying boons.
I am very open to thoughts and ideas. As for the weapons I know I really will want to use the staff, and after watching a video on the raid, the mace/shield is a good idea.
I am currently working on getting the Monk Rune from the Ascalonian Dungeon vendor in L.A. Each one is 180 tears, and I finished the track but it didn't seem very effective, anyways, all the more reason to farm pvp before the raid!
I only had to do one dungeon - the superior rune was only 120 tears. I had enough for 5, but then just did the dungeon and I was good.
PvE, Solo, Fractals, Dungeons:
Here is my Top Secret PvP Build focused on Bunkering, Mixed Damage, Decap and Capturing Points, and Party Support/Healing:
The utility skills change a lot from the meta, and there is only 1 trait that is different (pets taunt) but I feel that it makes a significant improvement. Sigils are also different. The signet of stone is your immunity to stun locking and DH, and Daze + Tides will kill the players stability most of the time, knock back everyone off of most points and then entangle is what get's you your cap time.
Sword and Torch and only used in 1v1 situations or when you need to lay down fire for the mid fights. Your pets will do plenty of damage on their own and mapping their controls to your mouse will make you a much better player.
Cons for PvP to be aware of:
1. Plague signet necros are usually the only necros that can kill you.
2. You are not as strong of a bunker as Mesmer, but you don't battle the cap problems.
3. Not impressive damage output (100-150K per game), but that is because you primarily are playing on staff.
4. 1v1 with a Rev will require the best timing for CC, and wisdom of when to apply DPS and when to be healing if you want to win.
